Frosty Nights: How Do you Protect Your Plants?

Frost cover open.jpg

Cover up!

No fancy stuff needed. Prop an old sheet, plastic drop cloth (or whatever you have) over tender plants to keep frost off. Be sure to uncover plants when the sun is up.

Because frost forms only on the surface of a plant, and it generally occurs when daytime temperatures are still above freezing, you can keep your planter going for a few more weeks if you keep the frost off!

Move plants to a protected location at night (indoors, a garage, a covered porch) or cover them lightly with a sheet or thin plastic to keep frost from settling on the leaves and flowers. Use sticks in the soil to support the covering to avoid breaking leaves and flowers and to keep the condensation off plant surfaces.

Remember to move/uncover your Garden sPOTs in the morning to allow them to keep getting warm sunlight during the day!
