Good Watering Practices
We know you get it -- plants need water. But how much, and how often? Put a finger in to check the top inch of soil. If it's dry, it's time to water. If your leaves or flowers look a little droopy, it's time to water. In mid-summer, when it's HOT out there (over 90 degrees) and your plants have grown to fill the pot, they need more water and may even need a drink twice a day!
Our potting mix drains well to help avoid root rot but that means it takes a little more time absorb moisture. Think of a sponge -- if you pour a lot of water on it at once, it runs off. But, if you add water slowly, it will soak up much more!
Direct your watering to the base of the plants (black soil) and avoid watering green leaves and flowers. Wet leaves, petals, and stems give diseases more places to set up shop and nobody wants that!
